Just a few minutes’ walk from the city center of Beauraing, the Castel Park is a 59-hectare hidden gem. It brings together two emblematic sites: St Peter’s park (the lower part, with ponds) and Ste Mary’s park (the upper part, home to the castle). This unique location offers the perfect setting for relaxation, family outings, and the discovery of a place rich in history and natural beauty.
A green haven for nature lovers
Above all, the Castel park is a wooded area where you can stroll at your own pace. A wide network of paths and trails lets you explore the local flora and fauna. You’ll also enjoy stunning viewpoints over the city of Beauraing and the park’s ponds. At the far end of the park, you can admire a small animal enclosure with fallow deer — a treat for both children and adults.
The castle and its secrets
At the heart of Ste Mary’s park lies the Castel of Beauraing, a historic site that dates back several centuries. Although the interior is not open to the public, its imposing silhouette can be admired from the outside. Just above it, a scenic lookout offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscape.
From the castle, a path leads into the wooded area of the park, taking you to the heart of the estate. There, you’ll discover the majestic statue of the Virgin Mary, from which eight paths radiate outward, forming a star.
At the park’s edge, next to the St Peter’s castel restaurant, stands the Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens Chapel, a remarkable building dating back to the 12th century. Not far from the chapel, you’ll also find the statue of the Duchess of Osuna’s mother, another historical feature not to be missed.
A place for leisure and relaxation
The Castel park also offers several facilities for relaxing with family or friends. A safe, well-equipped playground is located near the St Peter’s castel restaurant. You’ll also find barbecue areas, picnic spots, and quiet zones along the ponds — perfect for enjoying the outdoors in a peaceful and scenic environment.
For the sporty types
Joggers, hikers, mountain bikers and orienteering fans will find plenty to enjoy in the Castel park. The varied trails and gentle slopes offer ideal conditions for all kinds of outdoor activities.
A lively place: events and activities
The park regularly hosts events — perfect opportunities to get together with family and friends in a beautiful setting. This year, the Wood’s fest will take place on Sunday, October 19 (more info to come). The popular Medieval Festival of Beauraing will return in 2026.
Accessibility and comfort
The Castel park is accessible to all, with a certified Access-i trail for persons with reduced mobility. Two parking areas are available near the entrances at 56 and 83 Rue des Ardennes.
Public restrooms are freely available, and dogs are welcome on a leash.
