Located in the municipality of Beauraing, in the heart of Wallonia and the Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark, the village of Javingue-Sevry has around 350 inhabitants. This peaceful and picturesque village lies on a ridge that separates the Ardenne to the south from the Famenne to the north. Its calcareous-schist soil reflects the geological richness typical of this natural region.
Javingue-Sevry is a quiet village of about 350 inhabitants. It is situated on a foothill separating the Ardenne (to the south) from the Famenne (to the north). The soil is chalky.
The parish church of Saint Stephen, built in 1862 in a neoclassical style, is one of the key landmarks of Sevry. Its main feature is the funerary slab of Étienne-Nicolas de Bériot (1727), bailiff of the County of Agimont.
Built in the 15th century, the Tower of Sevry is a remarkable structure measuring about 7 metres long and 8 metres wide. Constructed from sandstone and limestone rubble, the tower has three storeys and a slate roof. It is attached to a farmhouse dwelling, rebuilt in 1900 using the same materials, as well as to an old château. Today, the entire site has been converted into a rural holiday home, offering a typical Ardennes setting for a stay in Beauraing.
Dating back to the 19th century, this circular watering trough made of large slabs of blue limestone was once fed by a small public fountain, known locally as a borne-fountain. This rural remnant is a fine example of traditional village life.
The Château of Javingue
The Château of Javingue was once the residence of the bailiff of the Provostship of Agimont. This traditional stone mansion, built in 1770, is surrounded by a tree-lined park enclosed by walls and wrought-iron gates. Although it is a private property, the château remains a symbolic landmark of local heritage.
