This natural wealth allows the presence of many insect-eating bat species, which here find food, roosts, and breeding areas. For example, Plecotus coordinates winter count campaigns, the <em>SOS Bats<\/em> network to help individuals, as well as numerous events such as the European Bat Night. Thanks to this work, knowledge and conservation of bats in Wallonia and Brussels progress each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where to see bats in Beauraing?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Parc du Castel Saint-Pierre<\/strong><br>Natagora hosts Bat Night here in collaboration with the Beauraing Tourist Office: a guided walk with ultrasound detectors, a short introduction to local species, and a friendly drink.<br>Next announced date: Friday, August 22, 2025, 8:30\u201310:30 pm (fully booked).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Natagora reserves around Beauraing<\/strong><br>Feschaux (in the municipality of Beauraing): a mosaic of meadows, hedges, young woodlands, and wet valleys, entirely designated as Natura 2000.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Simply around your home:<\/strong> at dusk, by watching them hunt above your terrace or around your building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"860\" height=\"530\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beauraingtourisme.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/promenade-guidee.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beauraingtourisme.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/promenade-guidee.jpg 860w, https:\/\/www.beauraingtourisme.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/promenade-guidee-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beauraingtourisme.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/promenade-guidee-768x473.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Bat Night: a guided walk organized in 2024 by the Beauraing Tourist Office in collaboration with Natagora.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Which species can you encounter?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In Wallonia, Natagora\/Plecotus records <strong>more than 20 species<\/strong>: pipistrelles (common, Nathusius\u2019, pygmy), myotis bats (Daubenton\u2019s, whiskered, greater mouse-eared\u2026), horseshoe bats, serotines, etc. Around the ponds of Castel or along rivers, you often see the <strong>pipistrelle<\/strong> (very common) and <strong>Daubenton\u2019s bat<\/strong> (hunting low over the water). Very sensitive periods: summer (non-flying young) and winter (hibernation).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Living with bats at home<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They do not damage roofs: they neither gnaw nor dig; the small noises heard are just movements on surfaces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Caution with building works:<\/strong> many modifications (netting, sealing, insulation behind cladding, wood treatments\u2026) can trap or poison bats. Contact <em>SOS Bats<\/em> at the slightest doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to take action in Beauraing (and elsewhere)?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Take part in Natagora walks<\/strong> (Castel Saint-Pierre, nearby reserves) to learn to listen\/identify and support local conservation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Preserve roosts:<\/strong> allow access to used attics\/rafters, avoid works in summer\/winter, keep old hollow trees, limit pesticide use in gardens.
