Felenne is the most border village of the commune of Beauraing and is situated at a high altitude of 340m. Its territory is 80% covered by the Ardennes forest.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Former customs<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Used until the free movement of goods and people in the Schengen area was introduced in 1995, this small customs post was used to check what people brought from one country to another. At that time, you couldn’t cross the border without the approval of the customs officer. The customs officer kept a watchful eye and there was a barrier across the road to prevent vehicles from crossing without being searched.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The chapel<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This pretty little chapel is dedicated to St Joseph, the patron saint of fathers and families.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This small family business is run by the Brasseur family. Alain and Annick, together with their son Arnaud, use organic farming techniques to look after their large orchard and superb vegetable garden. With their large variety of fruit and vegetables, they make their delicatessen products by hand!\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The views<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The highest point in Felenne is 389 metres above sea level. Due to its high altitude, Felenne offers breathtaking views.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

10 barbecues are available along a stream in the Bois du Roy, between Winenne and Felenne.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The church<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Built in the 18th century, it is dedicated to Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens. It is a sandstone and blue stone building of classical inspiration.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Well-known personality\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Belgian writer Georges Perp\u00e8te<\/strong>, who wrote “Les Frontaliers” and “Felenne, mon village”, came from this small village. In these books, this former teacher explores the collective memory of Felenne: he recounts the lives of the people who lived in Felenne and worked on the other side of the border. His books are on sale at the Tourist Office in Beauraing.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
