SUMMARY:Ceramic exhibition – Mara Seny
DESCRIPTION:\nFrom 1 to 15 May, some twenty ceramics and paintings by Mara Seny will be on display at the Tourist Office. It will be possible to come and see them every day from 8.30am to 12pm and from 1pm to 5pm. Admission is free.\n\n\n\nAutobiography of Mara Seny, a versatile artist\n\n\n\nI started ceramics in 2003 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Namur with Nathalie Doyen for 5 years. I then moved to Beauraing and had two beautiful children.\n\n\n\nI missed the contact with clay terribly and I looked for a studio where I could continue to work. I found it at Titane. For two years now, we have been enriching each other.\n\n\n\nMy inspiration has always been history. At first, I wanted to learn ceramics in order to make medieval utilitarian pottery from the 14th century. So I learned to turn and my eye slipped to ceramics in history and even more, in art in general.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBeyond medieval ceramics, which are extraordinary, I find fascinating the bas-reliefs of Palmyra, the Romanesque engraved stones of Ireland, the mummies of the Chachapoyas, the book of Kells, the Stavkirke door of Urnes, the portraits of Fayoum, and so much more… My curiosity has no limits.\n\n\n\nRecently, at the request of the Celtic Museum in Libramont, I made a pair of Celtic zoomorphic andirons (andirons are supports placed in a fire to support the logs and to delimit the fire) in the spirit of what was done in our regions at the time, and I found it an inexhaustible source of creativity.\n\n\n\nI discovered that at that time, miniature andirons (between 6 and 10 cm) were found in tombs. I could not find an explanation for this very special and fascinating rite. So I made dozens of them, respecting the Celtic techniques and in particular, the wood-firing, the sizes and the patterns. However, I went overboard by representing other animals, by mortifying the motifs, and singing the scales.\n\n\n\nWant to learn more about Mara Seny’s work?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
